DevOps Engineer (Data/BI) (Contract)
Location: London Country: UK Rate: up to £550 max
 

Overview

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our Legacy application running on AWS, as well as building and optimizing our Strategic Platform. You will work closely with developers, data architects, and operations teams to ensure seamless deployment, monitoring, and optimization across both platforms.

Responsibilities

Strategic Platform (Bronze, Silver, and Gold Architecture)

  • Collaborate with data architects to design and implement the Strategic Platform, which curates raw data from various passport application systems.
  • Utilize the following tech stack:
    • Pyspark: Develop ETL pipelines and data transformations.
    • Delta Parquet/Delta Tables: Store and manage data efficiently.
    • Azure: Host the Strategic Platform.
  • Deploy data pipelines using Docker-based containers in a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Implement BDD (Behavior-Driven Development) practices in Pyspark code.
  • Optimize performance and scalability of data processing.

Legacy Application Maintenance

  • Maintain and enhance a Legacy application running on AWS:
    • Power BI: Visualize data insights.
    • SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services): Manage OLAP cubes.
    • SQL Server on AWS EC2 instances: Handle data storage and retrieval.
    • CodeCommit and CodeBuild: Manage source code and build processes.
    • Local Docker containers: Support application components.
    • Java-based Lambda functions: Ingest data and execute SQL queries.
  • Manage the CI/CD pipeline using Python and Bash scripts.
  • Utilize Terraform for infrastructure provisioning.
  • Implement cost-saving measures using Step Functions to switch environments on and off.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in managing AWS services and infrastructure.
  • Experience with Power BI, SSAS, and SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with CodeCommit, CodeBuild, and Docker.
  • Proficient in Python and Bash Scripting.
  • Understanding of Java-based Lambda functions.
  • Knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure provisioning.
  • Ability to optimize costs using Step Functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to Legacy system migration.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
